Searching Far and Wide

Glen was creating a prototype for a new gate design. It was meant to be affordable and provide quick transport between individual homes. She tests several objects and a rat and everything seems to be working.

She steps through. Instead of finding herself in the room next door, she finds herself standing on a sidewalk in an empty city. The buildings are tall and perfect, colorless with doorways far too tall for any human. The roads have no straight lines and twist in on themselves. There is no life or sound.
Glen tries to stay calm. She begins to walk along the road, randomly opening doors and exploring buildings that are as silent as the rest of the world.

She opens a door that she hopes will lead onto a roof and is instead met with warmth, and soft noise, and color.

"It's kind of a jerk move to release one that isn't healed up, but one you just caught isn't going to be super attached to you. Some people do catch-and-release recreationally, or just like to go through a lot of options until they find one they click with."

"Are potions as good as healing at a center?"

"As long as nothing complicated is going on, yeah."

"Alright. I probably won't, but it's good to know."
Glen continues forward into the grass.

After about another twenty minutes of walking around - Bella has swapped her Pidgeot for her Sawsbuck and is riding him, staying back to avoid crowding Glen - Glen stumbles across an Abra munching on some grass. It squints up at her.

"Don't even fight it if you want it just throw the ball," says Bella quick, "before it gets away."

Glen throws the ball.

It bounces off the Abra's shoulder and engulfs it in light.

The ball shakes and shakes and eventually settles.

"Sometimes if you don't beat them up a little first they break out of the balls," Bella says, "but not always and an Abra won't reliably stick around long enough to get worn down."

Glen walks over and picks up the ball.
"It can't teleport away now?"

"Not out of the ball, and if you have a third slot now not away from you."

[intricate_engineer]

"I think I feel the connection."

[the_very_best]

"Congratulations!"

[intricate_engineer]

"Thank!"
Glen throws the ball onto the ground, releasing the Abra.
She knees down.
"Hi."

[the_very_best]

"Aaabra," it says.

[intricate_engineer]

"Do people usually name them?"

[the_very_best]

"I named all mine! Makes it less confusing when there's multiples of one species around."

[intricate_engineer]

"Makes sense. Uh, how about... Blink? Is that too silly?"
Glen is talking to the Abra, keeping her voice soft.

"It's not too silly," Bella assures her. "It's cute."

Blink blinks.

[intricate_engineer]

"How far can they teleport?"

[the_very_best]

"Not that far? You can, like, skip taking elevators, when you've got it - her - to the point where she can take directions on where to bring you, but it won't get you city to city."

[intricate_engineer]

"Oh! She can take passengers?"

[the_very_best]

"I think so, yeah! I might be remembering wrong, none of mine can teleport."

[intricate_engineer]

"I hope you're right. Do you think I should try to catch anything else?"

[the_very_best]

"I recommend you return your rental and heal your Zigzagoon first," Bella says. "And probably train these two up a little bit more and actually read something on training 'mon."

[intricate_engineer]

"Yea. I need to figure out what I'm actually doing. Thanks for bringing me."

"You're welcome! Back to town?"
