The gate opens in an small space. Through a doorway ahead is a mid-sized room, scattered with chairs. One wall, directly across from the doorway to the incoming gates area, is made of some clear material. On the other side of it is another room, with a metallic floor raised slightly above the first one's, with a half-dozen complex diagrams and space for many more.

The way into there appears to be through a decontamination room to the left. There is a door on the right into the rest of the base. Embedded in the wall to the left is the door to the outgoing gate area.

Both rooms are windowless and otherwise minimally decorated.

(Observant guests may note that the gravity is about a third of what they are used to.)

When the last of the party guests who were invited through the gate have crossed it, Leaf and his mother come through. The gate closes.

Leaf opens a gate to fetch his father.

And they proceed into the waiting area.

And Cordelia opens a gate to go see if the kobold wants to be warded too.

After a brief explanation, the kobold appears, yawning. She looks around, and as she takes in the various people in the room, she starts seeming much less sleepy and considerably more tense.

Cordelia shuts her gate and stays near the kobold.

Raezenoth wanted his acolyte gated in, so Miles goes back to the gating area and does that.

Here she is.

"Hi," she says lightly. "Rae's briefed me, where do I go stand?"

Thorn nods. "Shout if you need people kept off you. Can I have something to put on the board so you know when it is your turn?"

"In the conveniently located waiting room, for now."

Behold: it is so conveniently located. It's right there and everything.

"Oh my, it's almost like this was planned."

In she goes, to the waiting room.

"Thanks!"

"I shouldn't, but thank you. I will. Inkspot is fine."

Nearby, an ecto lights up with an article about libraries.

"Generally everyone's used to it, which has some unfortunate side effects."

Zahi gives him the directions, and asks for a name to put on the list.

Amadi nods, and gives her the directions.

Lena greets them! She gives them directions and asks for identifiers to put on the list.

"Oh!" He gives her a look of deep respect. "That was very brave of you. Youth literacy is an important cause."

He looks at the screen.

... yes, libraries certainly are places containing books which can be checked out, and which are guarded by librarians. The programming must still be a work in progress.

They are greeted and given directions and asked for things to put on the board by slightly distracted-looking Thorn.

There seems to be a cultural misunderstanding going on, the libraries that existed in the past in Eclipse were not dangerous unless otherwise in a warzone.

Cordelia gives Thorn four labels to put on the board (Aral, Cordelia, Leaf, and Kobold), and mentions that their contingent might as well be put off until the end since Cordelia is going to have to be the last one out of the universe if she's going to gate everyone else home.

The woman waits for her to take her place in the center of the spell, and then begins.

The incantation is longer than they'd like, but still fairly short by objective measures. Three lines suffice:

"Impose identity and invoke the void.
Cut away the world within from the world without.
Be this threefold ward the boundary and gate."

With a final, severe "Set." and the casting of a cupful of blood into the circle, the spell activates. A pulse of light ignites the blood into pale white fire, and the spell circle flashes into being.

The world outside the circle - blinks, black void, and then back into existence. A translucent veil, of the same uncolor that emanates from the walls, seems to separate them and the world, skintight, and then it is gone. All that is left is a vague sense of safety, and a small cloud of ash drifting to the floor.

"Huh. How do they protect the books then? How are there even any books left?"

"Um.. we keep records of who takes books from the library. Most of the time people remember to return them, but if they forget whoever's in charge of the records that month can go find them and remind them to bring their books back. If they forget too much they won't be allowed to take any more books out for a while."

"I don't think it would be very useful if the library was dangerous. Why is your library dangerous?"

Meanwhile, across the room, the kobold has noticed Steve talking to Anda. She's not very comfortable with this, and in the presence of the translation effect, it's particularly easy to notice.

Ahrotahn comes out of the decontamination area and climbs the ramp.

Tyche meets Ahrotahn, motions her into one of the circles, and casts the ward.
