The gate opens in an small space. Through a doorway ahead is a mid-sized room, scattered with chairs. One wall, directly across from the doorway to the incoming gates area, is made of some clear material. On the other side of it is another room, with a metallic floor raised slightly above the first one's, with a half-dozen complex diagrams and space for many more.

The way into there appears to be through a decontamination room to the left. There is a door on the right into the rest of the base. Embedded in the wall to the left is the door to the outgoing gate area.

Both rooms are windowless and otherwise minimally decorated.

(Observant guests may note that the gravity is about a third of what they are used to.)

He shoots the kobold a concerned and confused look.

"Our library does that too; most people don't forget to return their books, though. Why do you need a different person each month? The library needs to be dangerous to protect the books."

Anda catches sight of the kobold, several tentacles on one arm emerge briefly and entwine themselves(this looks like remorse and embarrassment through the comprehension spell). Linsa also catches sight of the kobold and looks similarly unhappy.

"Um...what? What's wrong with that? Um...we usually rotate people in and out of tasks that don't require complicated skills, so nobody gets bored."

(this looks like confusion, and mild alarm)

Huh. Humans aren't usually that expressive. Or that perceptive, for that matter. Did the translation magic change? A closer look at the other people in the room suggests that this might be the case - she relaxes a little, for having noticed that.

Perhaps this will work, then...

To Steve: Those two are alarming. You're safe enough right now, because Cordelia and other powerful people are here, but I will worry about you if you're alone with them.

To Anda and Linsa: I see you. I don't know what the deal is, so I'm not going to start anything, but I'm not going to let a friend go unwarned, either.

After the kobold's reaction, another message is appended.

Doing his best to project into what he knows of Lantern's grammar, he says, "Greetings; you are Lantern, yes?"

Prism goes to the diagrammed room when her name on the list flashes, and stands where she is told. She is very careful to not disturb anything.

Then she will not disturb the salt circle, and get quickly warded by the gruff man, who seems to be grateful not to have any more problems to deal with.

She smiles in an understanding kind of way at him, and then carefully steps out of the circle to get out of the way for the next person.

Steve nods acknowledgement to Lurker. After all, he doesn't actually know them that well, just that Anda is a good first responder in a crisis. It's indoors here, and so he can't really know anything for sure.

He reads the message on the screen and nods. He looks for a way to type back to say "I'm fine," but can't find a keyboard, and settles for looking non-alarmed

Then, he turns to address Anda and Linsa. "Okay, so. Your libraries are mostly run by people, and not librarians, and are not at all dangerous? How do people protect the library and its books, then?"

Anda and Linsa notice Lurker's attention and attempt to convey apologeticness and reassurance at a distance (everything is OK, nobody is going to get hurt, sorry)

"Um..librarians are people. Are your librarians not people? And, people don't usually try to break into our library to steal the books. We do get raiders breaking into the Householding, but they are after the people, not the books."

The quiet masked woman in black unpeels herself from an out of the way corner and heads to a circle when her name flashes. She does not look like she particularly wants to talk.

That seems to be enough of an acknowledgement to make the dialogue box disappear. The article changes to one on librarians.

Lantern smiles at him, and the half-visible bubbles he creates as he speaks.

"Yes! Hi! You are?" A blue sphere of glass with a clear disk sticking out one side briefly appears.

Kit is paying no attention to the flashing names, and only looks up from where she's drowsing on a chair when her name is called. She plods over to the warding room and does what people tell her.

Luckily, the person warding her does not seem to be at all inclined to talk. She is gestured through, given plenty of room, warded, and then waved out.

Tyche smiles at her, and gets through the warding as quickly as ze can so that Kit can go sleep.

The kobold goes back to watching the room in general, though she keeps an eye on them.

(Lantern will see a blue sphere connected by a twisting thread to a clear sphere with a small blob attached at the join between the sphere and thread, and a straight thread connecting the blue sphere to a smaller blue sphere) "Apologies, grammar." (two small blobs, connected by a twisted thread)

Then Zahi proceeds to give Lantern a summary of where to go and what to do, interspersed with grammatical and societal questions.

A man with very purple hair steps up to the warding circle, and begins to tap his fingers against one of the sleeves of his labcoat.

There is a red-suited man already waiting in the circle when they arrive, hovering and translucent.

"Raezenoth. Idania." He nods. "I'm afraid that in your case, there is a ... complication. To reach the majority of your self outside this Truth, far more power than would normally be required is necessary.

"So much, in fact... that someone must die."

His last words are punctuated by a low roll of thunder, barely on the edge of hearing.
