The gate opens in an small space. Through a doorway ahead is a mid-sized room, scattered with chairs. One wall, directly across from the doorway to the incoming gates area, is made of some clear material. On the other side of it is another room, with a metallic floor raised slightly above the first one's, with a half-dozen complex diagrams and space for many more.

The way into there appears to be through a decontamination room to the left. There is a door on the right into the rest of the base. Embedded in the wall to the left is the door to the outgoing gate area.

Both rooms are windowless and otherwise minimally decorated.

(Observant guests may note that the gravity is about a third of what they are used to.)

Yes, that is a very puzzled expression. But he is worried, not... whatever he might be if he was planning something... and anyway it is not as if...

She steps over to the nearby table and places it on that (as she does so, the aesthetic changes to a more iron-and-thorns one), scanning the room with mostly habitual nervousness before looking back at him. "Could you please explain what is going on now?"

He eyes it with deep suspicion when it changes shapes. "You came back wearing different clothes and a new necklace, and looked a lot more tired and maybe hurt? And look at it now."

Thorn blinks at him. She holds out one arm, and focuses: that sleeve rapidly changes between shapes and patterns, eventually settling back on the one it was in when she came back in. "The necklace seems to go back to default when I am not telling it what to look like -- that was how it looked to start with." She pauses for a moment to see if he responds.

He gives the iron-spiked rose-decorated clearly evil necklace a slightly appalled look. "It changes shape, and automatically looks like that. And you were wearing it. Are you missing any time, have your feelings been acting different than usual?"

Thorn continues to look bewildered, but thinks about this. After a little while: "I am not missing any time -- although I expect I would have noticed that immediately. I, also do not have any, irregularities in my memories or emotions. Please explain?"

Steve sighs in relief. "Okay good. So you're probably not possessed. I wanted to make sure."

"...possessed." Thorn says flatly. Well. This is apparently an Eventide thing. "--I am not possessed," she agrees.

...Does he look okay?

He looks mostly relieved. "Good. Uh, what is it then?"

He was fairly distressed, though, she remembers. "...um. Have you looked at the forums since we got here?"

...she would pick the necklace back up, but based on the way he is still watching it warily she thinks that might get objections.

"No, should I have? Is something big going on again? Something evil?"

"...somewhat amoral, but not evil, Aisilian -- um, Meletiti Entelecheiai -- checked. --Here." This, as she picks up an ecto off the table, and navigates it to the OTC's thread, before handing it to him.

He reads through the thread, struggling a bit with the interface. "They seem probably evil, but if they're not... Are they amoral in a way that is harmful? Like, big corporations can do a lot of damage just by not caring." He shivers a bit.

Thorn starts to respond, before being rapidly distracted by concern. "...do you want a hug?"

He starts to nod, then gives the necklace a suspicious look, and hesitates. "Uh, yes, but that necklace should probably be watched."

Well, then, he will get hugs positioned in such a way that he can still see the necklace. (Thorn will respect his paranoia on this subject for the moment)

He doesn't stop watching the necklace, but he gratefully accepts hugs. "Do you know if they are?"

"Aisilian said they do more good than bad overall, and generally consider harming people to be bad for business -- though they will if they are paid to or if the person defrauded them. But we are taking precautions." Hugs.

"Good. Corporations like that can be really bad. I'm glad they're better than they could be." Hugs.

"Yeah." Hugs. "Um. What happened?"

He loosens his hug enough to make it easier for her to leave when she decides to. "I - Igotmytowntakenoverbyanevilcorporation. It. I. I got a radio signal from somewhere else, I didn't know where, there was really bad weather that day, and I sent an email to the source. And he listened to me and seemed to agree with me, so I kept emailing him and I - I asked if he could help. With Night Vale. And we kept talking and then one day there were yellow helicopters and I thought everything was going to be better but then suddenly Strexcorp owned everything and it wasn't better it was worse, and it turned out to actually be from Desert Bluffs and also be a Smiling God that was the universe unraveling. We eventually fought them off and got everything back to normal, but it was bad."

Thorn considers this for a moment, then hugs him even tighter.

Hugs? What?

He hugs her back?

Hugs. "Um. I assume you have been more careful about checking who the people you are talking to are, and about them, since then?"

Oh. Slightly tighter hug. He nods. "Not your group in particular though, not until I'm warded, and then I will. But you personally seem fine."

Thorn makes a face that is simultaneously concerned and touched. After a moment more of hugs, she detangles herself and sits down in a conveniently placed chair, muttering about bloodloss.
