The gate opens in an small space. Through a doorway ahead is a mid-sized room, scattered with chairs. One wall, directly across from the doorway to the incoming gates area, is made of some clear material. On the other side of it is another room, with a metallic floor raised slightly above the first one's, with a half-dozen complex diagrams and space for many more.

The way into there appears to be through a decontamination room to the left. There is a door on the right into the rest of the base. Embedded in the wall to the left is the door to the outgoing gate area.

Both rooms are windowless and otherwise minimally decorated.

(Observant guests may note that the gravity is about a third of what they are used to.)

She holds it for a few moments, thinking. "--Would you be more comfortable if this looked different?"

"It looks pretty evil right now, but disguising it wouldn't change what its true form is? So it would be the same either way. So, do it if you want to?"

She gives him a slightly puzzled look, but shrugs, and slides the necklace over her head. After a moment or two, with slight concentration on her part, it shifts, digging the thorns into her skin. She looks slightly pained for a moment, and then it fades. Black coins appear on the table beside her.

After a moment of this, "Thorn? Not sure if you noticed, but the necklace is biting you."

She is visibly confused for a fraction of a second before noticing his alarm, and then directs the thorns to retract before answering. "Biting is -- not exactly the word I would have used, but, yes, it does that."

He relaxes a little, when he sees that she can control them, and a little more at her response. "Okay. As long as you know."

She looks at him for a moment, then shifts the necklace to the appearance it had when she came in. Then she looks at the coins on the table (there are nine ten-takkarash coins and three one-takkarash coins there), before carefully scooping them up and offering them to him.

He eyes the coins dubiously, but carefully takes them from her and puts the 10-TKR pieces on the table. "What exactly should I do?"

"They are for you. To use when you need them." She thinks for a moment, and then clarifies, "To use when you think you might possibly need them, really, they take time to redeem and the warding is more of the point than the anaesthesia, because, well, that does not actually heal injuries. I would really prefer that you use them when you do not wind up needing the protection than not doing so and needing it. --And you can and should let me know when you run low so that I can make more."

"Oh. Thank you." He pauses and blinks. "I get it doing anaesthesia but how would it do warding?"

"It does -- a ward against painful events?"

He comprehends what this means, and eyes the coins with considerably more respect. "That. That's. Are you sure you want to give those away? If you want I could look at something for you first?"

Thorn gives him an exceedingly confused/concerned/upset look ('yes I am sure I want to give you these, why would you think otherwise'), and then gets up and hugs him.

He makes a small surprised noise at the look. And is hugged.

"The answer to your question," she eventually manages, still hugging him, in case that did not come through the perfect comprehension, "is yes I am sure."

Hugs.

After a bit, he nods. "thank you."

"I," she says. "I did not intend for this to be this whole huge thing?" Hugs. "Everyone seems to think it is, and I... I am not sure why?"

"Oh, sorry about that then." hugs "Uh, if I remember the amounts correctly, that is kind of a lot of pain for casual purposes, and also maybe risky if the OTC does turn out to be doing something evil?"

Thorn looks... confused. At pretty much all of this. "Um," she says, after a moment, "in order: I do not know why you are apologizing; I do not have much pain aversion at that level; and, um, we did check for things like that?"

"For making it into a big thing and you didn't want to. That, that can be useful. Right, so they're probably not evil, but it is still a bit of a risk?"

"Oh," she says, still sounding confused. "It is more that... I do not understand why it became such? Aisilian made some sense, because he saw--" she cuts herself off, shaking her head slightly. "Lack of pain aversion -- has its benefits, yes. And as for the OTC -- I said we checked. There is an application of Symmetry that--" she briefly explains stasis indicators, "--and when I tested with a good order of magnitude more takkarash-minting than that it barely reacted."

He frowns and fidgets with the sleeves of his tunic, then deliberately relaxes. "All right, that's good then. Do you know if it'd be safe to look at?"

This results in a concerned look and a slightly tighter hug, but if he does not want to talk about whatever it is she is not going to push at the moment, not after how that went earlier.

Then her timer pings again, and she tenses slightly for a moment as she flicks her minting kit up to 90 tkr and back. (The table, out of sight, acquires another stack of takkarash).

After a moment, she says, "I would not expect the OTC to be unsafe for you to look at, though I would prefer to ask Aisilian to be sure they do not have any aggressive wards."

He hugs her a little tighter when she tenses, but doesn't ask why.

"Thank you. I'll check as soon as I know if it's safe."

Thorn nods, and starts to compose a message to Aisilian. A little way in, however, she stops.

"Um," she says. "It occurred to me earlier, among other things, that I do not know what you prefer to be called."
