A Rose, Unnaturally

The lockpicks slide against each other with a gentle metal-on-metal sheeee, then click solidly into place.

Sophia smiles beneath her mask. "Got it."

The other unclassified rose-bearer produces an extra flower, blue and purple like Sophie's but with flower and petal colours reversed.

"He's not sure what his flower does, but wants to know if anybody feels like taking the spare," Aaron reports.

Slab shrugs. "I'll take it. Even though the petals are garish, I'm willing to offend my aesthetic sensibilities in exchange for magic."

Mark tosses the flower in Slab's direction.

Slab stretches out to catch it, but Mark's weak toss means the flower is well out of his reach.

Instinctively, Sophia tries to catch it with her new telekinesis.

Telekinesis: success!

Sophia floats the rose over to herself.

"Slab, if the fancy petal-clothes bug you so much, I'll happily take this one instead."

Slab glares... But doesn't argue.

[four_is_death]

Sophia smiles. "I'm glad to see you don't mind."

Then she drives the rose's sharp point into her arm.

Sophia's petalsuit reconfigures to accomodate the second contribution. Now she has two roses, blue/purple and purple/blue.

Is her telekinesis stronger? Why yes it is!

Ooh, can she pick up a book now?

She can wobble the book more aggressively than before.

Rose puts a hand on her stack of books.

"Okay, it improves your telekinesis. So if the colors match..."

She looks over at the experiment.

The experiment shrugs.

[last_one_out]

"Mine don't match but I think they're still a pair..." muses Aaron.

[four_is_death]

"How can you tell?"

[last_one_out]

"Not sure. I might be wrong."

[four_is_death]

"... Especially with Light things, it's probably best not to leap to assumptions."

[last_one_out]

"Especially with Light things as opposed to what?"

[four_is_death]

"As opposed to things not made by Lights. And things that don't come from the woods. Both of them can be... Capricious."

"Rose, would you please knock it off with the long words? I get it, you want to impress the visitors."

"Does my sesquipedalian loquaciousness excessively confound that neuronal hodgepodge you call a consciousness, Eyes?"
