Searching Far and Wide

[intricate_engineer]

Glen was creating a prototype for a new gate design. It was meant to be affordable and provide quick transport between individual homes. She tests several objects and a rat and everything seems to be working.

She steps through. Instead of finding herself in the room next door, she finds herself standing on a sidewalk in an empty city. The buildings are tall and perfect, colorless with doorways far too tall for any human. The roads have no straight lines and twist in on themselves. There is no life or sound.
Glen tries to stay calm. She begins to walk along the road, randomly opening doors and exploring buildings that are as silent as the rest of the world.

She opens a door that she hopes will lead onto a roof and is instead met with warmth, and soft noise, and color.

"How long would you have stayed in this town if you hadn't found Milliways?"

"Probably a day or two, maybe one to three weeks if I found a good way to pick up cash."

"If you don't mind waiting, I'd like to travel with you. I know I'll likely hold you back, but you seem like you might be onto something with the legendary Pokémon."

"You can come along!" agrees Bella.

"Thanks! Where are you going next?"

"Lake Acuity!"

[intricate_engineer]

"What's there?"

[the_very_best]

"Uxie, supposedly!"

[intricate_engineer]

"Uxie?"

[the_very_best]

"It's a Legendary, one of the Lake Guardians."

[intricate_engineer]

"Do you plan to fight it? Or negotiate?"

[the_very_best]

"I don't want to fight it! I'm not out to catch legendaries or prove I'm a badass by beating them up or something! It can probably talk if it exists at all."

[intricate_engineer]

"Do people try to catch sentient beings?"

[the_very_best]

"Do people try to eat the moon?" shrugs Bella.

"I don't know that expression."

[the_very_best]

"It's not an expression, it's just, you think people meet sapient 'mon often enough that there are statistics on this?"

[intricate_engineer]

"Oh, sure. I thought you meant it was a regular pastime of the overly ambitious."

[the_very_best]

"Ha, no."

[intricate_engineer]

"I wouldn't put it past some people."

[the_very_best]

"Eating the moon or trying to catch sapient legendaries?"

And the town approaches.

"Both I suppose. Some people did used to think the moon was made of cheese."

Giggle.

When they land, Glen gratefully dismounts and stretches.
"I like flying, but that makes me a little nervous."

"It's better on your own 'mon than as a passenger, you should consider getting a flyer. Starly are easy to find around here, although you'd need to evolve it twice to get it actually comfortable to sit on. Some people have hammocks they get their smaller fliers to carry, it's not like little 'mon aren't strong enough."

"That's a good idea. Thanks. Do you know the way to the Pokécenter?"
