Visitations

There is a smallish stone room, with two beds, with a small pile of books between them, a table and chair, and on the table, some kind of laptop computer.

Anda taps out a last PM to the kobold and hits send.

She looks at Linsa who is sitting on the nearest bed, "Are you ready?"

"Let's do this."

Anda goes to sit on the bed next to Linsa to wait.

By the time Anda is done speaking, the kobold is visible, standing a little to the side of the desk so she can see and be seen by everyone in the room.

Stares, for several seconds.

Then the man says, "How did you get involved in this?"

Anda pulls the computer out of her bag, "I found this a few weeks ago, it connects to a thing that allows communication between universes."

The woman gets out of her chair, "That is...an Ancient machine?"

Anda shrugs, "Looks like one anyway. I'm glad I know how to write in English. Although the script is not identical to the modern script. Looking into getting help so I can write in Simelan instead."

She fiddles with the computer until it shows one of Esthfora's rainbow posts, "This person is some sort of extrademensional rainbow truth goddess, apparently. With rainbow truth magic." She puts the computer on the desk, in an area not covered by paper so both her Sectuib and his Companion can see the screen.

He says, "Well. That is an interesting effect."

Linsa says, "It is!"

The man then looks at the kobold, "Hello, kobold. I am Sectuib Olvier and this is my First Companion Hallie."

Anda supplies, "The kobold can understand us, but not speak directly. The magic she is using only does one way translation. Also, she does not have a name that I know of."

[greeting] [identity: this kobold [nameless]] [Planar message [magic] [limited uses between charging [three remaining]] [save for important things] [alternative exists [using the computer]]], she sends to him.

Olvier blinks, "We can talk, using this computer?"

Anda nods, "She can send a message that we can read on the screen here. It's a little awkward but it works."

The kobold demonstrates, taking out her obviously-magical glowing mirror and speaking to it for a few moments. When she's done, Anda's computer indicates that she has a private message:

Hi!

This thing is called the Many Worlds Forum; the god who made it translates all the messages for everyone, since most of us don't speak the same language at all.

Olivier purses his lips, "Gods."

"Apparently other worlds have those. I ran into one that was offended by raiders and offered asylum in case of raids."

Linsa says, "I like him. Raezenoth is his name."

The kobold grins as she composes another message:

Raezenoth is very nice, yes - most of the gods are, but Desert God is my favorite one.

"Well that's refreshing, given the usual attitude of religions I've heard about."

"It was very refreshing!" Linsa says.

Anda looks at the kobold, "There are a lot of religions over the border in Gen territory. They all hate Simes, as far as I know."

The kobold makes a complicated face at this, and pauses noticeably to think between the two sections of her message.

Sometimes people do antisocial things, if it helps them stay safe. That's not always bad, being safe is important.

Kobolds tend to end up as the target, on my world, when one kind of person decides they want to eat another kind. So I know a bit about what that does to people, even the people who survive it.

She looks sad, "True. They have fair reasons to be afraid, having never met a Sime that wasn't dangerous to them."

Linsa says, "If was safe for a Gen to travel there alone, we could send Gen members to try to talk to them, maybe."

We can probably help with that, one way or another, if it's the best plan - I don't know enough about your world to know if it is.

It's probably a good idea to give Olvier a chance to get used to all of this, first, though.

Olivier makes a face, "Please." Haillie moves to rub his neck.

Anda says, "I am not sure what the best plan would be, it depends on how many people want to help and what they can do. Several people have offered to help already."

The kobold nods sympathetically to the Sectuib.

A good plan is better than a fast one, usually. Take the time to think, it's important. Get advice, too, if it's safe enough to let other people know about the forum. I'm busy sometimes - this isn't the only world I'm working with - but I should be able to find time to come back, if you need to show other people that we're real.

As soon as the kobold finishes dictating her message, the mirror's blue glow flashes white instead. She listens to its brief message while the humans are reading hers, and hasn't quite hidden her distress by the time they look up again.

Anda says, "We will definitely think. The situation is not likely to change, there is time to consider."

Linsa looks concerned at the kobold, "Is there a problem?"

Bad news about one of those other worlds I was talking about. Probably not dangerous for you, they don't have magic to travel between worlds, but try not to get the spiders' attention, just to be safe.

Olvier gets an apologetic look, when he looks up from reading this message: yeah, dangerous giant otherworldly talking spiders, sorry.

Olivier makes another face.

Anda sighs, "I'll explain about the spiders later."

The kobold nods.

I should get back; the sooner I can get started on dealing with that the better, I think. I need someplace quiet to meditate and get my magic back, first, though, for most of an hour. Any quiet place is fine, I can be invisible while I do it.

"Well you can still use our room for that."

[lurkingkobold]

She nods again, and composes one last message.

Your world isn't the worst one we're trying to help, so you might have to wait sometimes, but we do definitely want to help make things better here, so please let us know if there's anything we can do.

When the humans are done reading the message, she half-bows, and waits for Anda to lead her back to her room.

Olivier says "...thank you."

Anda and Linsa lead the kobold back to the room.

"We'll just lock the door for you and head to the library for a while to give you some quiet, alright?"

She nods, and settles in to meditate, and then goes to deal with some spiders.
