The Party Had Just Begun

They spend the next couple of days just in Terraria, not exploring new worlds. Sivath builds the new house, with Emily's periodic assistance. Her sister and her sister's new Bonded...do not lack for ways to pass the time. At some point, Tialle's Demon gets around to eating a mana candy, and reports the same confused, undefined but large amount of mana. At some point after that, Emily gets around to warping over to Saravasse to report the information, and in the course of so doing meets some other dragons.

Eventually, the house is finished. It's glorious. Glass and marble and that peculiar, lovely Terrarian granite.

He grabs the stump with the other hand. What good he expects this to do him is not readily apparent. Perhaps it's just some kind of reflex.

Sivath looks at him consideringly for a moment.

He looks at Sivath with panic in his eyes, and tries to run back up the stairs.

A blue-white blur, and now Not-Jenkins is also a pile of pieces on the floor.

"I hope he wasn't innocent by some kind of incredible coincidence," says Sivath, "but it really didn't seem likely."

"Not hardly, no. If it bothers you maybe we should look at his papers or something for evidence of terrible."

He shrugs. "I'm satisfied with the evidence I've already seen, or I wouldn't have killed him."

[iamnotpolaris]

nod, nod. "Usually I prefer to get Edie to check anyone to make sure they really do need to die and aren't just some kind of deep cover agent for a non-evil intelligence agency or something but I can't imagine a secret agent being that incompetent."

"And Edie isn't here, and they could've been very dangerous if we let them have enough time to do things."

"I probably could have knocked them out and then given her a mental shout to hurry and come over, but yeah."

Nod.

[iamnotpolaris]

"...I have no idea who owns this place. Might be them, might be someone I don't particularly want to stick with this carpet cleaning bill. Oh well. I don't really know how to get blood out of a carpet anyway. Might be a good idea to find out who owns the place, if we can; I'm sure a couple of dismembered corpses wouldn't be a happy surprise for most anyone."

"I might be able to get rid of them but I'm not sure I could do it without damaging the floor."

"...I mean, random minor property damage, probably more fun to come home to than random corpses."

"It could end up damaging the floor a lot. It depends how some Terraria weapons interact with places that aren't Terraria, and I haven't tested that."

[iamnotpolaris]

"I think you might be underestimating how stressful most people find surprise corpses."

[not_only]

He laughs softly. "Maybe I am. Okay. Could you go outside, in case it's even more destructive than I'm expecting?"

[iamnotpolaris]

"Sure." She goes outside.

There are some bright lights and loud noises. Sivath comes outside.

"The floor is mostly okay, and the mess is mostly gone," he reports. "Still a lot of blood, though."

[iamnotpolaris]

"Well, blood is at least less likely to attract legal trouble than actual bodies."

[not_only]

Shrug. "That's convenient, I guess."

[iamnotpolaris]

"Yeah, that kind of thing can get really annoying when you're stuck in one universe. ...I feel like wandering around looking at other pretty cabins might be pushing our luck."

"Well, we could go back."

[iamnotpolaris]

"Yeah. Maybe see if there's a bookstore with architecture books."

[not_only]

"That would be nice."

[iamnotpolaris]

"Mm-hm!"

The university bookstore, as it turns out, has run out of this semester's architecture textbooks and isn't sure when they'll have more in, but there are still copies of a book on art history that mostly focuses on buildings.
