The Party Had Just Begun

They spend the next couple of days just in Terraria, not exploring new worlds. Sivath builds the new house, with Emily's periodic assistance. Her sister and her sister's new Bonded...do not lack for ways to pass the time. At some point, Tialle's Demon gets around to eating a mana candy, and reports the same confused, undefined but large amount of mana. At some point after that, Emily gets around to warping over to Saravasse to report the information, and in the course of so doing meets some other dragons.

Eventually, the house is finished. It's glorious. Glass and marble and that peculiar, lovely Terrarian granite.

"I see," says Sivath. "Is this cabin working well for your purposes? Who knows you're here?"

[maggie_of_the_owls]

"Fairly well. It's not ideal," he admits. "But for short notice it's been quite good. You know, and our employer, and anyone he's chosen to share it with."

"Your employer?"

[maggie_of_the_owls]

"Oh, yes. Best not to share the details, of course, things like this, but he's the one who's paying us to lay metaphorical poxes upon his enemies."

Suddenly he is holding an ice-blue short sword. It glows faintly.

"So," he says, "I really don't see any good reasons why I shouldn't kill you right now."

[maggie_of_the_owls]

The man is surprised! He startles badly enough to have to catch himself against a lamp. He stares at the short sword.

"Looks like you can't think of any either," says Sivath. "What a surprise."

[maggie_of_the_owls]

"What--you can't just--"

[not_only]

"Can't I?" he asks. "Who's going to stop me?"

[maggie_of_the_owls]

"But--you--why?"

[iamnotpolaris]

"If you have to ask, it's probably not worth explaining."

[not_only]

"I agree," says Sivath.

The sword becomes a blue-white blur, slicing through the air and through the proponent of human sacrifice with equal ease, dozens of times in less than a second. He is unlikely to have time to scream.

"Gross." Emily opines. "...I meant him, not the various chunks of him on this poor carpet, although I have to admit that was a little messy."

"And this isn't Terraria, so it's not all going to vanish in a minute."

[iamnotpolaris]

"Yeah. At least he didn't explode all over us first."

[not_only]

Sivath wipes a stray drop of blood from his face. "Yes, that would've been hard to clean up," he agrees.

[maggie_of_the_owls]

From upstairs, the sound of a door opening can be heard. "Jenkins? What's the meaning of this racket?" And then the sounds of someone descending a mildly creaky set of stairs.

Sivath waits, sword in hand.

[maggie_of_the_owls]

Not-Jenkins reaches the bottom.

He sees the sword.

He starts to make some kind of sharp gesture.

[not_only]

The sword blurs. Perhaps he will find it difficult to finish the gesture if he is deprived of that hand.

[maggie_of_the_owls]

Perhaps, yes!

He grabs the stump with the other hand. What good he expects this to do him is not readily apparent. Perhaps it's just some kind of reflex.

Sivath looks at him consideringly for a moment.

[maggie_of_the_owls]

He looks at Sivath with panic in his eyes, and tries to run back up the stairs.

[not_only]

A blue-white blur, and now Not-Jenkins is also a pile of pieces on the floor.

"I hope he wasn't innocent by some kind of incredible coincidence," says Sivath, "but it really didn't seem likely."

"Not hardly, no. If it bothers you maybe we should look at his papers or something for evidence of terrible."
