Thorn... does not rehug him immediately, then, waiting to make sure he is okay with being hugged again first.

'I know' she taps.

He relaxes a little at that, and returns the hug.

Hugs.

Thorn winces as the lights get even more glaring and psychedelic. 'need to find way out' she taps.

He nods, and turns to look at the lights. They are flashing very quickly and chaotically.

There has to be a meaning to them. What patterns are there? It looks like there are exactly two of each color flashing at a time. The lights are highlighting the triangular tiles in hexagonal shapes. The hexagonal shapes' borders match up with the sets of patterns from the walls.

He catches Thorn's attention, and points with a foot at the closest hexagonal group of tiles, and another which is lighting up in the same color.

Thorn squints at this with her dramatically reduced vision. After a moment, she nods, and then shrugs.

Yes, that is apparently a thing. No, she doesn't know what it means.

Steve takes a hesitant step onto the nearest lit hexagon of tiles.

When his foot touches the floor, the lights shift and flash more slowly, and the piercing trill quiets itself. He looks back and tries to wave Thorn after him.

Thorn has been watching this nervously. At his gesture, she gives him a dubious/concerned look, but takes a deep breath and follows.

When she has taken the few steps to reach him, she holds out her hand toward him tentatively.

He reaches his elbow back toward her hand.

As she steps into the same set lit hexagon of triangles as him, the lights stop shifting back and forth between variously highlighted hexagons, and the low growling noise quiets.

Thorn bites her lip, and then places her hand very lightly on his elbow and taps out 'dont want to bump hand'

He nods, then starts looking for any sign of what to do next.

Maybe something in the tiles' outlines? He starts trying to find similarities between them. After a few seconds of this, the lights start flashing and flickering again, although they stay in the same groups of six.

Thorn makes an unhappy sound, but does not respond further.

After a little while she taps out 'analysis help useful?'

He nods and points with his foot to some tiles he's noticed are outlined in the same design.

Thorn considers them for a moment, then looks around the room before returning her gaze to them. After a moment, she looks around again, and

blinks

and blinks again

and then brings her free hand up to cover her eyes, making a pained noise.

He turns quickly when her grip on his elbow changes.

Her eyes? Look mostly covered maybe not enough at the edges. He starts to reach to cover the edges but stops before his hands leave his ears.

'u ok?' he taps against her foot, then tries to hold still to be easier to balance from.

She shifts her grip on his elbow enough to free up a finger to tap out 'n'. Pause. 'u?'

not okay after looking at the lights like he told her to and she's not okay

He starts to nod, then stops. 'y' he taps. 'help u? eyes?

She makes a vaguely relieved noise, and tightens her hand over her eyes in acknowledgement of that bit. She thinks for a moment, and then releases her grip on his elbow and half-sits, half-slides to the floor.

She just breathes for a moment, and then slides her foot over to tap out: 'prob psi backlash if so fine soon' pause, as she composes the next bit 'alt poss trait of pattern' breath, and then emphatically 'be careful'

probably fine soon. He breathes a sigh of relief.

'help you?' he taps back. 'will be careful'

'stay here? careful? not much else' pause 'time'

'ok' he taps back, and then waits.

'i' she starts, then stops, shaking her head marginally.

She takes a breath, her face taking on a look of concentration, and then she is still and silent for a little while, steeling herself, before poking at her sense of self.

After a moment, her body language shifts to profound relief, and she reaches back over and taps out 'not infected'

'good', he taps. He winces at an unexpected scraping noise. 'leave off ears, was bettter for a bit, worse now, dont know why.'

Thorn considers for a moment, and then uses her not-currently-occupied arm to sort-of-hug his legs.

She makes a deeply unhappy face at the latter statement, but nods. 'should probably eyes too' she taps out unhappily.

Thoughtful pause. 'lights less bad when we moved? sound too?'

She isn't mad at him? He balances carefully to accept the hugs.

'yeah' he taps back. 'i should try move to stop? ok to move?'

Thorn sits there for a long moment, and then lets her hand drop away from her eyes, although she leaves them closed. She proceeds to use both hands to lever herself to her feet (avoiding falling in the process only by a fairly narrow margin), and feels for where she remembers him being.
