Sea monsters aren't typically in this area, but sometimes things can go wrong and a sea beast will rise up from the depths to try and drag the ship down with them to munch on the tasty humans inside. Sometimes when this happens, the ship gets away, if the people on it are clever or have the right enchanted items or have a particular talent for magic. More often than not, though - they don't.

So even when a sea monster attack is very, very unlikely, if Lirlaveth notices a ship anywhere nearby, she'll put what she's doing on hold and quietly follow the ship to make sure it's not going to be attacked by a murderous monster that wants to eat humans. Or, if it is, to help prevent the humans from becoming food.

She's spotted one such ship, and so even though it means putting her study into enchantment on hold, she goes to follow it to make sure it'll be all right. Probably just paranoia (sea beast attacks aren't that common), but it might turn out to be justified one day.

Oh.

The siren has the courtesy to blush and look away. She shifts a bit to try and cover herself. It's only moderately successful.

"I'd offer you a spare pair of trousers if I had any," she says. "Maybe my sisters will bring some."

Eyebrow raise. She motions around them. And how will they know where to find you?

"We have a magic sister-finding mirror."

Ah! That makes sense. She nods.

...

She looks pensively at the ocean. She prods the sand with a foot.

[gloriousdawn]

"Um?"

[light_another_life]

Oh, right. All body language is now taken as communicative.

She considers how to word this. She decides that maybe she can't figure that out, so she goes with drawing in the sand.

She draws what could be reasoned to be a stick-siren, then draws a giant monster that could be surmised to be a sea beast. Then she crosses out the tail of the stick-siren, and draws arrows from the sea beast to the no-tailed siren. ... And angry eyebrows. On the sea beast.

"...oh," says the human, pensively.

Lirlaveth nods, looking away. She goes back to drawing.

She draws another siren by the sea beast, and adds a little heart between the sea beast and the siren. Then she draws squigglies from the siren to the no-tailed siren.

She doesn't actually know how to draw 'Luckily I boiled the bitch alive a bit' but she thinks it. She looks angrily at the ocean, instead.

"...so, I'm Idalta," she says. "My sisters, whenever they show up, are Esri and Amain."

... Can she write her name in Seraini? She's not sure. She mostly learned numbers and how to tell dates, not actually breaking down the language for use in writing.

After consideration - no, she's not going to try it yet. She'd rather not have a bastardized version of her name.

She waves to Idalta, then touches her throat apologetically. And then motions to the sand and shakes her head. Unless Idalta speaks Kuravie? And can read it? Which she seriously doubts.

"I've noticed you're mute, yes," she says. "You can't write either?"

She makes a face, and then a 'sort of' hand motion.

While she doesn't have the correct type of tool, she can still draw out letters in Kuravie in the sand, if she makes them kind of big and clumsy. She spells out her name in Kuravie, then shrugs. She does not appear to be expecting Idalta to be able to read her language.

"Okay, bear with me, I'm going to mess this up a bit," she says. "L, li, lir, lirla, lirlav... Lirlaveth?"

She's not a siren, but her pronunciation is okay.

Lirlaveth blinks. Then smiles, delighted. She nods!

"Nice to meet you," says Idalta.

[light_another_life]

She inclines her head, likewise.

[gloriousdawn]

"I wonder what's taking them so long..."

[light_another_life]

Eyebrow raise.

[gloriousdawn]

"They wouldn't have been that far away, if they're coming from the manor house... maybe the road was out."

She can't really comment, but she nods.




... Maybe she should try walking.

Aaaaaa no no no let's just stay down here and not move yes good that's a good plan.

"What a disaster," murmurs Idalta, hugging her knees.

[light_another_life]

How does she explain that nobody died? Hm.

She draws a boat, adds little stick people and a sea beast, and then adds a single person falling off the boat. She points at Idalta. Then she points at the boat, draws an arrow away from the sea beast, and draws an 'X' over the sea beast. They got out fine.

(The siren helping them got cursed for it, but hey. Everyone's alive. So that's nice.)
