Current Location: well, it _was_ open ocean

Among the information she has archived or cached, there are obscure theories about inter-universal interactions. Not how they might happen, much less how any intelligence might begin one, or target it meaningfully.

But they give some constraints on the properties of such connections, and their time evolution.

This highly speculative information is available to her, but even were she fast enough to access it, none of it would be particularly useful when a pinpoint of not here blinks into existence directly ahead and expands spherically to swallow her.

Morgan doesn't strictly need to sleep. Even if she didn't want to put up with the annoyance of constantly having a caffeine buzz and having to ask for coffee on almost every summon, there are naps. Naps can keep a daeva going for quite a long time.

But there's something unutterably pleasant about curling up in a proper bed in pajamas and just sleeping. And then waking up and getting breakfast in those pajamas. So she does that, because immortality's a long unpleasant time if you don't enjoy the little things every now and then. Like adorable bunny slippers and soft pajamas and sleeping in.

She's midway through a fruity salad thing that counts as the standard fairy breakfast when she feels the summon. Showing up to a summon in pajamas? Eh. If they're proper summoners she bets they've seen worse, and she doesn't particularly care if they think she's unprofessional.

She puts her spoon down and accepts the summon.

The Fate who calls herself Mountain tried to convince some of her neighbors to allow the occasional mountain in their lands, for stability purposes.

"I meant no insult!" Dodge ball of lava. "I don't intend to interfere, you said no!" Dodge house-sized spear of ice. "I'm leaving peacefully, okay, so stop tearing up the tile!"

"You'll respawn at home. No permanent damage. You interrupted an important meeting, you need to learn a lesson about territory, mountain bitch." Dodge- no, fail to dodge a thrown tree, and then another ice ball. The next sphere of magma is what destroyed that form.

She wakes up, stripped of all her tools and enchantments and even clothes, and groans in pain.

The thirteen-year-old girl is coming back home from school, on foot.

There's a cat following her. It's been following her for a while, but from a distance.

She decides to be friendly. She stops and turns around to look at it. It stops as well. "Mow?"

The girl's face- changes. It's still a human face, mostly, but now there's something different about it. More feline than anything. Whiskers grow, her pupils dilate and her eyes get a bit rounder, her bones move under her skin, their shape changing a bit. "Mew," she says, vocal apparatus having changed a bit, apparently.

The cat blinks and approaches cautiously. "Moow...?"

She doesn't giggle, but she feels like giggling. She's talking to a kitty! Well, kinda talking to a kitty, it's not like she can understand kitty-speech. But still! "Maw!"

mrwoods

He sighs.

Push. Pull. Push. Pull.

His eyes are closed, and he's sitting alone in one of the Propulsor cabins.

Push. Pull. Push. Pull.

His bare skin is touching the cold stone. He likes that, and it helps with the propulsion, as if he was actually part of the ship.

Push. Pull. Push. Pull.

He can feel the whole ship. Not quite like a Navigator can, they know stuff in relation to other stuff, they can perceive everything, trace destinations. Even now, he can feel the Nav, nudging all the Propulsors in the same directions, telling where they should go.

Push. Pull. Push. Pull.

There's feedback, of course. The Nav tells them, we must go there. They reply, that's not a good place to go. Gravitational field. Someone - this ship has a metamage, even if there was no time mage that was still impressive - says that there's a sea of instability over there, we should not go that way.

Push. Pull.

Sigh.

This is all, of course, happening in his head. Not a sound can be heard from his cabin, other than his breathing and the occasional sigh.

It's not that he dislikes propulsion. It's interesting, it doesn't exactly let him get completely bored. Or not always, but this ship has several Propulsors, so he only really needs to pay a little bit of attention.

I'm checking out, he thinks, and he feels the nonverbal nudge saying basically 'Alright.'

And a bit of a wave of indifference.

It's not that he's completely irrelevant either, but there's enough of them that he can check out pretty much whenever he likes.

He's been sighing a lot, hasn't he.

He puts his clothes back on, then touches the door so it'll let him out. He leaves and-

"Oh, hi. You're the new guy, right?"
