The beach is a nice, convenient, out-of-earshot place to calibrate the coordinates for this universe.

"Oh, no, we've got markers in every universe we've visited, just in case. That's what the strings of seemingly-random numbers and letters represent. Those are cheap and easy, it's the wormhole generation that takes up most of the armband. The reason we're having a hard time getting home is that we haven't been there since we got the armbands in the first place."

He nods understanding.

"So we'll make a quick stop in sooner rather than later, but meanwhile we do have spares." She rummages in her bag for another one. "I guess ARWRM 4 and 5 will also work, then," she tells Saravasse.

"And which one will you give to Tialle's Demon?"

[whatamithinking]

She checks the one she's just pulled out of the bag. "This one's five. So five."

[pythbox]

Snort. "I'll remember that."

[whatamithinking]

"We'll try to let you know if any of them get broken but if you try and get an error message that's probably why."

[pythbox]

Saravasse nods.

[whatamithinking]

Something occurs to her.

She looks between the dragons.

"So, how exactly does the unicorn virgin thing work, is he going to be uncomfortable for reasons besides airsickness on the way back? Or is that an intrusive question."

"Thankfully, dragons don't count," says Saravasse.

[whatamithinking]

"That sounds both convenient and arbitrary," she agrees.

[pythbox]

Saravasse shrugs.

[whatamithinking]

"Of course, lots of things are arbitrary. And it really does sound very convenient."

[pythbox]

"If you want to talk about convenience, consider how fortunate it is that unicorns don't count," Saravasse says dryly.

"That hadn't even occurred to me but now I'm imagining the alternative. Yes, indeed, fortunate."

Saravasse chuckles.

[whatamithinking]

"I mean, exactly how fortunate depends on how bad the aversion is, I suppose. Scenarios in my head are ranging from 'significantly awkward' to 'total extinction of the species within a handful of generations.'"

"Let's be glad we don't have to find out which of those it is," says Saravasse.

[whatamithinking]

"Agreed."

[pythbox]

Saravasse snorts, an amused little sound that would probably be very quiet if she weren't so big.

Sound tends to work that way.

No one actually says anything for a bit.

Okay, Edie's just going to hug this purple dragon.

...That is adorable and she is adorable. The purple dragon snuggles her very carefully, as befits someone who is large and scaly snuggling someone who is small and soft. (She's wearing chainmail, but still.) Even Saravasse smiles.

Edie is in fact small and soft relative to a dragon. And, apparently, adorable. To be fair, the chainmail is magic.

(In a corner of her mind she notes that purple scales and blue chainmail is a good color combination.)
