Don't expect mercy from my government

One elf is starting to run out of time. The assassins plotting to kill her could show up any day now. She would really rather they didn't.

The irony doesn't escape her. She's still sending messages about her plans to sell off all of her lifespan and die to become a daeva with a lot of OTC currency. If she wanted, she could mint a ton of Ka, then let the assassins kill her. But the idea doesn't appeal. Some form of giving up, of letting them win. She's not often petty, but in this particular instance she thinks she'll indulge herself. Besides, it's not like they're the merciful type. She recalls Aisilian's perfect comprehensioned words. You were in quite a lot of pain...

No. No, she'll - not do that. She'll go spend a little while in Nexus.

She sends Miles a message.

So everything is packed and I have everything I need with me to flee my dimension before I get assassinated. Is now a good time?

"Breakfast, what a great idea."

Down to the kitchen they can go, then.

How convenient, leftover breakfast food. She offers Miles a muffin and starts warming the pancakes.

The muffin is good. It is a good muffin. An exemplar of muffinkind.

A certain elf pokes her head into the kitchen, attempting to look as nonthreatening as possible.

"Good morning," she says.

(She is a tad sleep deprived, but she's used to that sort of thing. It doesn't show.)

"Good morning," says Miles. "Breakfast?"

[poll_the_stars]

"Sure." Pause. "If, uh." She glances at the kobold. "That's okay?"

The question seems more posed to the kobold than Miles.

The kobold freezes, for just a moment, when the elf's attention falls on her, but she plates a stack of pancakes and sets a small bowl of jelly beside them and sets it on the table for her.

"Thank you," says Inavet, bowing a little. Table-ward she goes. She does not ask about maple syrup, just carefully gets to eating pancakes. As nonthreateningly as possible.

Miles nibbles his muffin. It is delicious. He is emotionally exhausted.

Someone notices.

... Ugh, this is going to suck.

"Hey, Miles. Do you want to play Plasma Rain after we're done eating?"

Meanwhile, Miles gets his own plate of pancakes (also with jelly) and a comforting nudge, and then the kobold makes herself a plate and joins them.

"...I look that bad, huh?" Sigh. "Yeah, sure."

[poll_the_stars]

"Sorry. I don't have the heart to be subtle. You're stuck with blunt force trauma as applied to language."

He smiles, and sighs, and eats his pancakes with a thank-you nudge for the kobold.

Inavet smiles a little, and then goes back to eating her pancakes.

She is content to not talk until the meal is concluded. Less chance to freak the kobold out that way, she thinks. She saw the freeze, earlier, and feels sort of vaguely guilty for it.

Miles finishes eating and helps put away the various things, and then heads for Plasma Rain.

The kobold follows, settling into a chair that will let her keep an eye on Miles and Inavet without being too close to them.

Inavet resigns herself to getting her ass kicked at Plasma Rain.

She's noticeably improved, though. Improved reflexes will do that.

Miles finds this activity moderately cheering! He begins to look noticeably less depressed.

Good, good. That is the point of this. Miles should be much less depressed.

She starts cursing in Elvish after the sixth game.

(She does not like losing.)

Comprehend Language.

Well, that sentence roughly meant 'inbred moose-fucker' (aimed towards the game, not Miles), and that one was something about the creator of the game doing something anatomically impossible and likely not especially fun.

"Are you sure you're not demeaning perfectly respectable moose by associating them with something that annoys you so much?" inquires Miles.
