"...Okay, did you catch the part where it was literally unprecedented for a member of his species not to be evil?"

"I think so, sort of. It seems... weird, though."

[iamnotpolaris]

"It definitely seems weird. But given that the unicorn did observe that this particular one was non-evil I am slightly less inclined to be suspicious of it. I...think there was some kind of metaphysical gunk which plus super toxic culture was making them be evil. And he was resistant to it, or something, and doesn't have it any more."

"That's kind of a raw deal for the rest of them," he says thoughtfully.

"I mean, I don't disagree. But there's kind of a point past which someone's unfortunate backstory is less important than the weapon they're pointing at you."

He nods.

[iamnotpolaris]

"I'm sort of curious about the things in this world that aren't demons and dragons, but I don't want to inflict my not-a-virginness on the unicorn and the dragons and the demon are...not people I want to risk interrupting at. Things."

"And I could talk to the unicorn but I don't think we speak any of the same languages. And I don't know where he went."

"And the demon and his dragon probably aren't the best sources of information on literally anything in the past ten thousand years."

"Yeah."

[iamnotpolaris]

"So that leaves the other dragon. I guess when Edie is presentable again she can ask the demon if the dragons are up to anything uninterruptable at the time."

"It's sort of weird that everyone went off and did... uninterruptible things."

"I mean, the dragons seem to have a population bottleneck?"

"Less surprising-weird and more awkward-weird, I mean."

[iamnotpolaris]

"It is that!"

"Like I said, this is not normal for us."

"I didn't think it was."

[iamnotpolaris]

"It was even more awkward on a telepathic level, there were feels all over the place."

"That makes sense."

"Thank God she can turn the telepathic backchannel off, is all I have to say."

"Yes."

"If she couldn't I'm pretty sure Liselen wouldn't have had a problem with either of us. It would be the only defense mechanism."
