Don't expect mercy from my government

One elf is starting to run out of time. The assassins plotting to kill her could show up any day now. She would really rather they didn't.

The irony doesn't escape her. She's still sending messages about her plans to sell off all of her lifespan and die to become a daeva with a lot of OTC currency. If she wanted, she could mint a ton of Ka, then let the assassins kill her. But the idea doesn't appeal. Some form of giving up, of letting them win. She's not often petty, but in this particular instance she thinks she'll indulge herself. Besides, it's not like they're the merciful type. She recalls Aisilian's perfect comprehensioned words. You were in quite a lot of pain...

No. No, she'll - not do that. She'll go spend a little while in Nexus.

She sends Miles a message.

So everything is packed and I have everything I need with me to flee my dimension before I get assassinated. Is now a good time?

It's a minute or so before he's steady enough to unscrunch and hug back.

The kobold is patient.

Hug. Sniffle.

"I'm worried for my friend because there are people in her world trying to kill her, and I want to give her a safe place to stay, but she can't stay here if staying here is going to upset her that much, and I don't know what to do."

She looks confused, at this.

Sigh. Sniffle. "What?"

[lurkingkobold]

"I mean... that's an elf. A mage elf. It's nice that you want to help them, but it's definitely not safe to have them here."

[thisvorlunatic]

"She is my friend," he emphasizes. "My extremely helpful and trustworthy friend."

[lurkingkobold]

Sigh. Consider. (What a mess. The elf knows where the house is and has seen both of them, and apparently has Gate or something like it. None of the standard safety precautions will work here, except maybe the antimagic, and Miles doesn't have antimagic.) Sigh.

"What do you need from me?"

"...I don't know. I'd like it if Inavet could stay here, as opposed to going home and getting assassinated. What are you willing to do in the way of not lurking invisibly around her?"

Dammit. Her old tribe was right; this being friends with non-kobolds thing is going to get her killed. She doesn't have it in her to hurt Miles, though.

Hug. "If that's really what you need."

Hug. "Thanks." Sigh. Further hug.

Then he PMs Inavet.

Kobold friend has agreed to not lurk invisibly around you.

Okay. That - helps. A lot. Tell her thank you.

"Inavet says 'thank you, that helps a lot'."

This gets a look. It is rather reminiscent of the look the kobold made at Anda's PM'd apology, albeit quite a bit more worried.

Miles wants to try to explain... something here, possibly just the fact that Inavet is a person, but he doesn't have the first clue where to start. So he just sighs.

Sigh. Hug.

Inavet takes the time to calm down, a bit. She sits among unfamiliar trees and assures herself that there is no weird aura-warping kobold immediately nearby. She waits until she's reasonably certain she won't burst into tears again. Then, she washes her face with water from her canteen, picks herself up, and carefully makes her way back to the house.

As promised, she can locate her room. She does that, then goes and sits in it.

(She watches for aura-wobbles, and for kobolds.)

There are no aura-wobbles, and no kobold either unless she goes looking for Miles.

She's not going to go looking for Miles right now. She - would really just like to be left alone for a while.

Actually, she might miss the next meal time.

Well, in that case, there are in fact wobbles, from downstairs, when it is dinner time.

Then, a little later, there are wobbles in the hallway, approaching, and a knock on the door, and the wobbles retreat.

Ina waits until the wobbles have retreated, then she opens the door.

On the floor by the door is a tray with a plate of food on it - apparently dinner is chicken with rice and carrots, tonight.

Is surprising?

Very, very surprising.

But nice.

Inavet picks up the tray, checks the contents of it for poisons, and deems it clean. She debates whether or not to thank the kobold personally, and decides against it on grounds of not wanting to freak her out. Instead she sends Miles a planar message to tell a certain someone thank you.
